ENPHE Seminar 2023: Educating Physiotherapists for a Global Mindset

Bergen, Norway - Western Norway University of Applied Sciences

REGISTRATION AT END OF THE PAGE

The ENPHE Seminar 2023 is hosted and organized by Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. The seminar includes three days of activities - see detailed programme below. The first day is dedicated to ENPHE Management and ENPHE Students Body Program (9th of March). The second and the third days (10th and 11th March) cover the Working Group development and invited keynote speakers.

The overarching theme for this year's seminar is "Educating Physiotherapists for a Global Mindset", and as such, respective keynote speakers, activities and workshops have been handpicked to help foster that Global Mindset. This seminar will be an excellent opportunity for networking and sharing thoughts, ideas and experiences on this topic. And "the cherry on top", we will not go on withouth the memorable ENPHE gala and ENPHE sports activities as well. All educators and students (ENPHE members and non-members) are invited to participate and contribute to the strengthening of the cooperation between European Higher Education Institutions in the field of Physiotherapy.

*Working Group Development

Research
1. ERASMUS+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP). Topic: Evidence-Based Physiotherapy, coordinated by Marja Äijö, Savonia University of Applied Sciences in autumn 2023. Discussion this topic and opportunities to keep the course together.
2. Forever Young project: Anne Griet Brader Hanze University of Applied Sciences. In spring seminar 2023, we are planning this project.

Facilitation of Learning
Discussion with the participants to scan and plan the program for the working group “Facilitation for learning”, using manual thinking and focus group methods to develop our future. The groups will answer what are the needs and wishes for the next seminars and conferences. Facilitated by: Mari Torne and Griselda González Caminal

Interprofessional Learning
Will not have a session this seminar.

Professional Issues
1. Direct access - developing a minimum curriculum. Activity: present current researches and create a group of developers and start the development to present next Conference
2. European common framework to facilitate diploma recognition - initiatives from the French Association. Activity: present current developments and create a group for the validation

Practice based learning
Together with Miriam Wijbenga from the European School of Physiotherapy in Amsterdam we will be looking into supporting phyfisotherapy students in the challenges of clinical placements. Through shared reflection and sharing experiences between participants, the aim is to co-construct tips and tricks for supervisors, focused on their role in supporting students'challenges in health professions education during clinical placement.

Internationalization
The working group Internationalization has chosen the theme of ‘The global competent Physiotherapist’ for the next coming years. In the past years we’ve been gathering material on internationalization. For example competence models, readers, policy papers or workshops on internationalization, interculturality, Virtual Exchange and SDG’s. Our next step in creating educational material for ‘The Global Competent Physiotherapist’ is defining learning outcomes, designing assessment of and creating  learning activities.  During the seminar in Bergen we work case-based on different intercultural and/or international physiotherapy cases and with the perspective of different (intercultural) competence models on defining learning outcomes for the Global Competent Physiotherapist.

Pain Education in PT
Nominal Group to discuss and reach a consensus on the domains that need to be taught in the bachelor curriculum.

Emergent Topics in Physiotherapy
Open discussion addressing the understanding of and attitudes towards AI tools (such as ChatGPT) in Physiotherapy and exploring the pros and cons of AI in Physiotherapy education, research and practice.

Environmental Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy higher education and GreenComp - the European sustainability competency framework: challenges and opportunities. Facilitated by Filip Maric & Steinunn Arnars Ólafsdóttir
In this year's working group sessions, the environmental physiotherapy working group will be discussing opportunities and challenges in environmental physiotherapy education in view of the recently published GreenComp - the European sustainability competency framework (Bianchi et al., 2022). This framework leans on the previously published UNESCO Education for Sustainable Development Goals: learning objectives (2017) and attempts to advance a common ground and consensual definition of what sustainability competence entails for European learners and educators. As critical thinking is a central competency in both of these frameworks, we will also consider some of the dangers and pitfalls of sustainable healthcare education as a call for global engagement for planetary health and how physiotherapy education might overcome these from the start (Sandset & Engebretsen, 2022). Participants are encouraged to engage in pre-reading to facilitate collaboration during the working group sessions.

The City

Bergen is an old trading city that dates back from 1020. The city was founded in 1070. Remains from the early trading periods can still be found at the ‘Bryggen’ area in Bergen centre. Bergen was the largest city in Norway until 1830’s. It is known to be the rainiest city in Europe. When it is not raining, the city is a jewel in the way it is located between seven mountains and the fjords. From the city centre, you can take the train up to the mountain Fløyen where you have a scenic view of the city centre and the fjords. Next to Bryggen, the famous fish market is located. Bergen’s seven mountains offer a wide range of hiking possibilities easily accessible from the city centre
